What does it mean to be human - and what does it mean to become human?
The film exhibition Human is about the 7 basic human conditions: birth, fear, love, loss, faith, reason and death. They shape us. They change us. They show us what we humans have in common - right now and through 7 million years.
THE JOURNEY. The thought-provoking film The Journey takes us to 7 continents and shows the 7 basic human conditions in different cultures:
Birth in Denmark, love in Africa, faith in South America, fear in Oceania, loss in North America, sanity in the South Pole and death in Asia.
The film is a sensual story in sound and images. In a time when the focus is often on what divides us, the film gives food for thought about what we have in common.

THE HISTORY OF EVOLUTION. The Journey takes us on an even longer journey – far back into our deep past.
Human evolution is not a straight line from apes to the humans we are today.
Our origin is a large complex puzzle of different species. Some species live side by side, some become new species and others become extinct. In traces from our distant relatives, the basic conditions of human life appear.
Over 7 million years, human development shapes birth, fear, love, loss, faith, reason and death – from the early great apes to Homo sapiens.

In Human we focus on seven fundamental conditions that all humans share across time and space. Our aim is to give as many people as possible an understanding of what connects us—all the way back to the deep origins of humanity.
In the research we are still working to piece together the full picture of humanity’s complex evolution and the forces that have shaped us over 7 million years. Fortunately, new discoveries regularly emerge, making us wiser about who we are and where we come from.
In the exhibition, we present a cinematic portrayal of our shared basic human conditions today, and we share the latest knowledge about human origins—from the early genera of human apes and human species to the humans we are today.
